ABOUT ABOUT

Join us on October 28th at 6:30 PM at the century-old landmark Plays and Players Theater, for an evening of fun discussion with Kae Lani Palmisano! Meet old friends and new, raise a glass at Quig’s Pub, known as the “actor’s speakeasy,” a private club inside Rittenhouse’s Plays and Players Theatre.

There’s more to food than what’s on the plate. Every dish is a living history, an integral part of an identity that contextualizes where we come from, how cultures influenced one another, and where we’re headed next.

While some travelers follow their hearts, Kae Lani has always followed her gut, covering food from unique perspectives across four continents. Her culinary travels have taken her from exploring the Spice Route through Israel and Europe to foraging with the Māori in New Zealand.

Join Emmy Award-Winning television host and food and travel writer, Kae Lani, for an interactive conversation on the many ways in which food expresses cultural identity and how her travels across four continents changed the way she thinks about what we eat. She’ll share the perspectives she’s gained over her career and how her travel experiences inform her reporting. She’ll also explore how we as avid travelers and passionate foodies, can be mindful of how we approach and appreciate cuisines from around the world.

Kae Lani Palmisano is an Emmy Award-Winning television host, food and travel writer, recipe developer, and home cook who loves to explore the journey that food takes to get to the plate. As an “edutainer” her work focuses on having fun with food while educating audiences about where it comes from and its historical and cultural impact.

As the host of WHYY’s Check, Please! Philly, Kae Lani showcases Philadelphia’s favorite restaurants through the eyes of locals, celebrating fine dining establishments alongside hidden neighborhood gems.  From Bucks County to Delaware and the Main Line to South Jersey, Check, Please! Philly is one of the region’s top food programs, earning Kae Lani the 2020 Mid-Atlantic Emmy for Talent: Program Host/Moderator, as well as two other Mid-Atlantic Emmy nominations in the show’s first year.

In addition to hosting Check, Please! Philly, Kae Lani is the writer and host of Delishtory, a digital series that explores the fascinating histories and hidden backstories behind foods we know and love, streaming now on WHYY’s YouTube and the PBS App.

Kae Lani has been featured in the BBC, Salon, on Fox29 Good Day Philadelphia, and has appeared on Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back on FOX.  As a food and travel writer, she has been published in The Philadelphia Inquirer, Food & Wine, USA TODAY, KitchenAid Stories, Roads & Kingdoms, and more.
